Backstage – Modest Fashion Week London

Hello guys!

Hope you are all doing great! It’s been a while since my last post on this blog and I miss writing and sharing with you guys!!

A lot has been happening in my life. Good things and bad things come at the same time. But I am very grateful with everything. Really.

In today’s post, I want to take you guys with me going back to 2017. My first time ever working in a backstage of a fashion show in London, Modest Fashion Week.

As a backstage dresser, I was assigned to assist two fashion designers from Indonesia, which are, Hengki Kawilarang and Mira Indria Couture. The show would begin at 8 pm and the backstage dresser would need to stand by and did the preparation 6 hours before, which was at 2 pm. And so my one of unforgettable day begun …. 😀

Busy…busy…busy….

Every team worked with their own task. Production team, make-up artist and hair stylist team, dresser team, front of house team, everyone moved their own equipment and tools to the venue.

First thing to do, I needed to unpack the garments from the designer’s luggage and hung them on the garment rack. The garments should be hung according to the order of the walk of the model. And then, all the garment needed to be steam pressed carefully. The fabric type will determine how far the iron steam should be placed to the garment.

After all the garments had been prepared and the model came, the designers tried the garment on the model to see how it fits and whether any adjustment was needed to make sure the garment fits perfectly when the model do the catwalk. Not all things run according to the plan. That is why sewing kit is essential to a dresser to fix any problem that can occur on the garment.

NEXT STEP : Catwalk’s rehearsal for the show

Time flies so fast and it was already 7 pm.

As the show begun, me as a dresser needed to be ready at the backstage to change the model’s garment.

Walk after walk.

Model after model.

And guess what?? I could meet supermodel Halima Aden.

All the show going so well and I am very grateful to be part of this team and the show.
